Під час перекладу американських військових текстів необхідно розрізняти значення термінів “communication”, ”communications” та “signal”. Термін “communication” використовується у значеннях “звязок”, “засоби звязку або вид зв’язку”. Термін ”communications” є формою множини терміна “communication” у значеннях „шляхи сполучення”, „комунікації”. У решті випадків терміни “communication” та ”communications” є синонімічними. У функції означення ці терміни також взаємозамінні. Термін “signal” перекладається “сигнал”, “електромагнітне випромінювання”, імпульс”, “передавати сигнали”. Але у множині термін “signal” вже змінює своє значення на „зв’язок”, „засоби зв’язку”, „війська зв’язку”.
