On tactical map where the grid interval is 1,000 meters coordinates are read as follows:

• start at lower left-hand corner of the map and read RIGHT and UP, first, locating the grid square; e.g., 9234;
• place the appropriate corner of the coordinate card (the one corresponding to the scale and grid system of the map) along the EAST-WEST grid at the lower left-hand corner of the grid square 9234 and slide it (eastward) to the object;
• again READ RIGHT UP on the coordinate card. This will result in the complete coordinates of the object; e.g. 92793476
